(Arnolds Park)-Hairball returns to the Iowa Great Lakes on Saturday night, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The popular band Hairball will rock the Live at the Lake Concert Series at Preservation Plaza on Saturday evening.
Bobby Jensen is one of 3 lead singers in the group, which he says is more than just a cover band. “You know, you have to be a real rock star underneath. It’s not just wigs, it’s not just knowing the song on guitar. It’s you either are or you’re not type of thing, and all of us have been in rock and roll our whole life, so, to put on a rock and roll show is what we’ve wanted to do since we were kids with our KISS lunch boxes. We never wanted a real job, so you do everything you can to not have to have one of those.”
He adds that many of the major stars that the group has impersonated have performed with the band. “We had Gene (Simmons), we’ve had the whole band of KISS, we’ve had Alice Cooper, Vince Neil, Rob Zombie, Joan Jett, Dee Snider, Tom Keifer, Kip Winger, the list goes on and on. Everybody that we’ve impersonated has performed with us, and I guess that’s because it’s never been a tongue-in-cheek type of thing, it’s never been like we want to be a tribute to anything. We go up and perform the songs just like we wrote them, the same way that Aerosmith plays songs that they didn’t write, but people still consider it an Aerosmith song. We consider them Hairball songs. We just throw on a big rock and roll show.”
The free concert will get underway at 7:30 Saturday night and will be followed by fireworks over West Okoboji.
